What I Believe
First: I believe, without hesitation or reservation, that the Bible is the inspired, flawless and authoritative word of God. Along with my salvation, I consider this unshakeable conviction the greatest act of grace in my life.
Second: I believe, without hesitation or reservation, in the doctrine and glory of the Trinity — the Fellowship of Infinite Happiness — the Godhead — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. My understanding of the Trinity, and especially the love and relational wonders within the Triune being of God, has brought the deepest joy in my life.
Third: I come from a family of churches that does not confess human creeds as a test of orthodoxy — No book but the Bible, no creed but Christ! However, if you want to know what I believe in less than one minute, the revised Nicene Creed (381 A.D.) states simply, elegantly, and exactly, those things I cherish as central to my faith.
Symbolum Nicaenum / Credo
I believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God of God, Light of Light,
true God of true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
I believe in one holy universal and apostolic Church.
I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
I hold these particular truths to be inviolable. And I proudly proclaim them to all who will listen — H
